Thank you for this informative and educational video. Reading comments and reviews all over it seems that many people think (including me till now), that the temperature is measured at the "red dot", which is seldom the same as a temperature probe's reading at the "red dot" position, probably due to the uninformative instruction manuals accompanying the units. Often resulting in people returning units because "they are not working properly." Finding video's like this one sure explains a lot.- Thank you.

an IR thermometer does not emit any IR radiation; there is no "IR beam". it detects black body radiation which has a wave length in the IR range for objects with a temperature around room temperature. the relation between the spectral distribution and the temperature of a black body is given by the Plank distribution.
